Berit Owen, DVM

Dr Owen moved to Makawao from the northern California redwoods in 1992, but she was fortunate to spend a few years in Australia where she earned her veterinary degree at Murdoch University. She worked for several years at one of the largest veterinary clinics in Australia, focusing on small animal medicine and surgery, with a special interest in dentistry and geriatrics. Although she loves dogs and cats equally, she especially enjoys feline medicine, in particular feline geriatrics, preventative care and chronic pain relief. While in Australia, Dr Owen also spent time in Tasmania working with the endangered Tasmanian Devil, as well as catching and releasing the Australian duck-billed platypus for species monitoring and data collection; some of Dr Owen’s patients were exotic wildlife such as kangaroo, cockatoos and carpet pythons.

After many beautiful and adventure-filled years in Australia, Dr Owen has returned to Makawao with her two much-loved Aussie cats, and is very happy to once again have the privilege of helping and healing pets, as well as getting to know their owners. When she’s not at the clinic, Dr Owen enjoys running, beach days and hiking. She also loves gardening, reading and singing.
